Pest Control

Does Pest Control Attract Bugs?

Some pest control does attract bugs … but probably not how you’re thinking. The goal of pest control is to protect you and your family from rodents, spiders, and insects that can carry disease and cause health issues. That means removing them from your house and yard, as well as preventing them from coming back.

Bait Pest Control will Attract Bugs or Rodents

Some methods of pest control attract bugs — or, more commonly, rodents — into traps using bait. For example, think of the mouse trap with a chunk of cheese on it. There are also granular and gel formulas of insect baits that attract bugs to find and eat them. These insect baits are designed to be picked up and carried back to the nesting colony. It is here that the product is spread and shared with the others, effectively eliminating the problem at it’s source.

Seeing More Bugs at First May Indicate Success

It may not feel like it, but seeing more bugs right after a pest control treatment can be a sign that it’s working. Sometimes you’ll start noticing more bugs as the pest control treatments start attracting the bugs to them. These are not new bugs coming into your home. They’re bugs that have been in your home all along, but now they’re dying or trying to find new places to live. Eventually, you should not only stop seeing more bugs than before, you should stop seeing them at all. It’s important to talk to your pest control professional if you’re noticing more live bugs once you’ve started treatment, though, because something may have been missed or just not be quite right.
